How to Verify Fitment

  1. Locate the part number stamped on the side of your Delco distributor body.
  2. Compare it with the list of compatible part numbers above.
  3. Ensure your system meets the 12-volt and 3.0 Ohm coil requirements.

Easy Installation

If you can install breaker points, you can install the Ready Fire Delco4CYL Ignition Kit. No external ignition box is required, and everything fits neatly under the distributor cap for a clean, stock appearance.

Installation Tips for Delco4CYL Electronic Ignition Kit

1. Remove Old Components:
Take out the points, condenser, and associated wiring from your distributor. Be sure to clean the breaker plate thoroughly to ensure optimal contact for the new ignition module.

2. Check the Coil:
Verify your coil’s primary resistance is at least 3.0 Ohms for proper operation. Use a multimeter to measure resistance between the positive and negative terminals, ensuring compatibility with the Delco4CYL module.

3. Installing the Magnet Sleeve:
Gently fit the magnet sleeve onto the distributor shaft. If it feels too tight, lightly sand or file the edges to ensure a secure fit without excessive force. The sleeve must align properly with the shaft’s lobes.

4. Wiring the Module:
Connect the red wire from the module to the positive terminal of the coil and the black wire to the negative terminal. Double-check the connections, as reversing them will damage the module.

5. Adjust Timing:
Set the timing with a stroboscopic light after installing the Delco4CYL kit. The timing position may differ from that of a points-based system, so fine-tuning is necessary for proper engine performance.

6. Securing Wires:
Ensure the module’s wires are secure and not in contact with moving parts. Use zip ties or a similar method to keep the wires neatly in place inside the distributor.

7. Voltage Check:
Measure the voltage at the coil’s positive terminal with the ignition on (engine off). It should read between 11 and 13 volts. If the voltage exceeds 14 volts, consider adding a ballast resistor to protect the module.

8. Final Testing:
Reassemble the distributor and test the system. The engine should start more easily and run smoother with improved efficiency.

9. Maintenance-Free Operation:
Once installed, the Delco4CYL kit eliminates the need for frequent adjustments, providing reliable and consistent performance for the long haul

VERY IMPORTANT — BEFORE ORDERING:

Some distributors of vehicles, boats, etc. may differ, according to whether the stock distributor is still in place or a replacement distributor has been installed. Some otherwise similar or identical engines use different distributor brands and/or different distributor part numbers. We need your distributor’s brand name, distributor part number and number of engine cylinders to ensure that the electronic ignition conversion kit is the correct one for your particular distributor.

If your distributor part number, normally found on the side of the distributor body, is not among those listed on the relevant web page, chances are, the Ready-Fire ignition conversion kit won’t fit your distributor.

It’s imperative that we know your distributor’s brand name, distributor part number and the number of cylinders of your engine. You may need to remove the distributor temporarily, so that you can read the distributor part number from the side of the distributor body. Usually, the side of your distributor will be covered with oil and dirt, so you’ll need to clean it to find the distributor brand name and exact part number.

We can guarantee only that each of our ignition kits will fit a distributor with one of the distributor part numbers listed on its relevant web page. Otherwise, it likely won’t fit. Ready-Fire ignition kits require a 12-volt, negative ground (earth) electrical system.

If you order the wrong electronic ignition conversion kit for your distributor, you’ll need to return it to us, via US Postal Service mail within 30 days from date of purchase. If the ignition kit is in perfect, unused condition, we can accept it as a returned item, within 30 days of purchase, and provide a refund to your PayPal account, less a 20% restocking fee and any international shipping fees, etc., but only if the ignition kit is in pristine, unused condition. Buyer is responsible for shipping and other costs to return the product for credit or exchange.
