Installation Instructions
Before beginning the installation, ensure the vehicle’s battery is disconnected to prevent accidental electrical discharge.
- Preparation
- Turn off the ignition switch and disconnect the battery’s ground strap.
- Remove the distributor cap, keeping the spark plug wires attached unless replacing the cap.
- Take out the rotor from the distributor shaft.
- Remove Existing Components
- Detach the existing breaker points and condenser from the distributor.
- Clean the distributor’s interior, especially the breaker plate and cam, to remove any grease or debris.
- Install the Nippon6CYL Module
- Apply a thin layer of the provided thermal paste to the base of the new ignition module.
- Position the module onto the distributor’s breaker plate, aligning the screw holes.
- Secure the module using the original screws, ensuring it sits flat and snug on the breaker plate.
- Install the Magnetic Sleeve
- Place the provided 6-cylinder magnetic sleeve over the distributor cam.
- Ensure the sleeve is seated properly and rotates freely without obstruction.
- Wiring
- Connect the module’s red wire to the positive terminal of the ignition coil.
- Connect the module’s black wire to the negative terminal of the ignition coil.
- Route the wires carefully to avoid contact with moving parts or high-heat areas.
- Reassembly
- Reinstall the rotor onto the distributor shaft.
- Replace the distributor cap, ensuring all wires are securely connected.
- Final Steps
- Reconnect the battery’s ground strap.
- Start the engine and check for proper operation.
- Use a timing light to verify and adjust the ignition timing as per the manufacturer’s specifications.
Important Notes
- Ensure the ignition coil has a primary resistance of at least 3.0 ohms. Using a coil with lower resistance may damage the module.
- This kit is designed for 12-volt, negative ground electrical systems only.
- Regularly inspect all connections and components to maintain optimal performance.

VERY IMPORTANT — BEFORE ORDERING:
Some distributors of vehicles, boats, etc. may differ, according to whether the stock distributor is still in place or a replacement distributor has been installed. Some otherwise similar or identical engines use different distributor brands and/or different distributor part numbers. We need your distributor’s brand name, distributor part number and number of engine cylinders to ensure that the electronic ignition conversion kit is the correct one for your particular distributor.
If your distributor part number, normally found on the side of the distributor body, is not among those listed on the relevant web page, chances are, the Ready-Fire ignition conversion kit won’t fit your distributor.
It’s imperative that we know your distributor’s brand name, distributor part number and the number of cylinders of your engine. You may need to remove the distributor temporarily, so that you can read the distributor part number from the side of the distributor body. Usually, the side of your distributor will be covered with oil and dirt, so you’ll need to clean it to find the distributor brand name and exact part number.
We can guarantee only that each of our ignition kits will fit a distributor with one of the distributor part numbers listed on its relevant web page. Otherwise, it likely won’t fit. Ready-Fire ignition kits require a 12-volt, negative ground (earth) electrical system.
If you order the wrong electronic ignition conversion kit for your distributor, you’ll need to return it to us, via US Postal Service mail within 30 days from date of purchase. If the ignition kit is in perfect, unused condition, we can accept it as a returned item, within 30 days of purchase, and provide a refund to your PayPal account, less a 20% restocking fee and any international shipping fees, etc., but only if the ignition kit is in pristine, unused condition. Buyer is responsible for shipping and other costs to return the product for credit or exchange.
